TREATMENT

COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE

I advise that Traditional Chinese Medicine should not be seen as an alternative to advice from a medical doctor, but rather as complementary medicine. It is still crucial to follow medical findings and include them in a holistic treatment plan.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST CONSULTATION

In order to achieve a complete understanding of your health and condition, a number of different diagnostic methods are used at the initial consultation that will help me get a complete picture of you as an individual. This will include taking a full medical history, looking at your tongue and reading your pulses, as well as asking about your nutrition and lifestyle. The approach used in acupuncture is to seek to understand the root of a problem, rather than looking only at the symptoms on the surface.

TREATMENT

Acupuncture is performed by inserting single-use sterile needles which are safely disposed of after each treatment. Acupuncture needles are as fine as a strand of hair. When the needle is inserted you may feel  a tingling, pulling or dull ache. This feeling is called “de qi”, or energy, and means that the needles are working on removing blockages along the meridians that can develop when we experience stress.

You may also receive a massage and then depending on your condition, cupping or guasha to address the flow of the qi in body followed by needling. You will have my full attention for the entire hour because the needles are also manipulated to increase the sensation of de qi and increase the treatment efficacy.

Depending on your symptoms, I may also do soft tissue release (massage), cupping, or advise on postural exercises. The key is to find the right balance for you.
